flash the cat. it won’t thank you.
USB + CHROME
plug in. flash. resume judgment.
connect your Grudge Cat over USB, hit the button, pick the serial port, and wait. the whole thing happens in your browser — no toolchain, no terminal, no excuses. it erases and reflashes the whole chip, so the cat reincarnates with fresh firmware and the same contempt.
new firmware. same contempt.
you will need
- Chrome, Edge, or Opera. Web Serial does not exist in Safari or Firefox. the cat does not care about your browser loyalty.
- a USB data cable (not a charge-only one) and the matching USB-serial driver for your board — see below. without the driver the board never shows up in the port picker.
drivers — install yours first
Grudge Cat ships on three board variants, each with a different USB-serial chip. if your board doesn’t appear in the port picker, install the driver for its chip, replug, then flash:
- Board A — WCH CH340. WCH CH34x macOS / Windows driver →
- Board B — Silicon Labs CP2104. SiLabs CP210x VCP driver →
- Board C — WCH CH9102. WCH VCP driver (covers CH9102) →
if it sulks
- no port in the picker? wrong or missing driver, a charge-only cable, or a dead USB port. fix the driver first — that’s the cause nine times out of nine.
- flashing fails or stalls? unplug, hold the BOOT button (GPIO0) while you replug, then flash again — that forces the chip into its serial bootloader.
- flashed fine but the screen’s black? give it a few seconds to boot. still nothing → reflash.
